About

History

While studying music at the college of San Mateo in the late 70's, I began playing gigs in the Bay Area, mostly Jazz combo's and occasional big band gigs.

Private studies with Don Haas and Gus Gustovson focused on improvisation concepts, ear training and also arranging.

While at the college of San Mateo I won several outstanding soloist awards at Jazz Festivals (Pacific Coast) and also received an award from Down Beat magazine for Outstanding Soloist (college student awards).

Over the last 30 years I've worked with many top artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Jackie & Roy, Harry Connick Jr, Steve Allen, Terry Gibbs, Frank Sinatra Jr. and Dave Brubeck.

I was a regular member of The Full Faith & Credit Big Band, The Brilliant Corners Tentet, The Full Spectrum Big Band, The James Leary Big Band, and the Bay Area Jazz Composers Orchestra.

In addition to leading my own small groups, I lead the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, a great 16pc Big Band featuring the top players from around the Bay Area.
